The club allocates funding every year to support student personal projects, but you must adhere to the following policy guidelines:
- Do not ask us to buy you a singular off-the-shelf product – Maker Club supports projects in the spirit of “making” from basic components. We see this as equivalent to buying a pre-built PC vs. building one yourself (please note we will not buy you components to build your own PC if you request them).
- Our preferred method of purchasing components is E-Shop. For a list of available vendors, see this page. You must try and find the cheapest available option on the E-Shop sites including Amazon, DigiKey, McMaster, Newegg, B&H, and WB Mason. We are able to purchase non-E-Shop items through the ECE department, but it requires additional approval and increases the time to purchase. If asked by an e-board member, you must provide a compelling reason for choosing a more expensive/non-E-Shop part.
- If requesting more than approximately $100 of parts, you will be required to provide a video update at the end of your project (of no less than 5 minutes) explaining and demonstrating your project and the project must be completed by the end of the academic year (will roll over to next academic year if purchased during summer). This video will be able to be used by Maker Club for advertising purposes.
- We will periodically check in with you during the schoolyear to make sure you are making progress on your project/remind you about the video
- This video is not meant to be a chore – you can use it to showcase your projects to your interviewers through the Project Videos page!
- These funds are to be allocated for personal projects only! That means it cannot be for classes, research, or project teams. Please talk to one of the current officers if you have any questions.
*Once you receive an email saying your parts have been delivered, you can find them next to the wall fuse box in the Electrical Lab shown here:
